With the support of The Restoration Initiative, a program funded by the Global Environment Facility, FAO and UN Environment are supporting the government of Kenya to develop a Forest and Landscape Restoration Implementation Action Plan (2021-2025) to accelerate interventions on the ground. The goal is to sustainably manage deforested and degraded landscapes and contribute to the country’s Bonn Challenge and AFR100 commitment to restore 5.1 million hectares by 2030. Under the leadership of the Kenya Forest Service and in collaboration with experts from the National Technical Working Group on Forest and Landscape Restoration, this five-year plan is being developed following a rigorous multi-stakeholder consultative process informed by the country’s Restoration Opportunities Assessment Technical Report (2016) and relevant national and county level policies, strategies and legal frameworks.
